Nominal News Update – Going Full Time
A big announcement – I will be writing Nominal News full time.
Nominal News is an economics newsletter written by a PhD Economist that translates the latest economic research into clear, policy‑relevant insights on current issues. Join 4,000 readers to stay-up-to-date with Nominal News directly in your inbox:
Dear Reader!
I wanted to share an update with you – in the next few months, I will be transitioning into working on the Nominal Newsletter full time. It’s a big decision, but something I am very excited about. In the last few years, I have very much enjoyed writing and sharing the economic research that I read. I also look forward to formally introducing myself! Going full-time will enable me:
Write more consistently;
Spend more time finding research;
Improve graphically;
Continue to always have AI-free writing!;
Explore other ways to provide content.
As part of the transition into full time work, I will be turning on a paid option in the newsletter in case you would like to support me and Nominal News. However, I do not intend to pay-wall my weekly deeper dive essays, as the aim of Nominal Newsletter is educational, and I would like that to remain accessible to all.
At the same time, I would like to offer something for Paid Subscribers. This is where you – my reader – come in!
Below is a link to a Google Questionnaire, would truly appreciate if you could take a few minutes to complete it. This is intended for you to let me know what would you like to see more of at Nominal News, and, especially, what would you like to see in case you’re interested in becoming a Paid Subscriber. (Although not finalized, I intend to charge around $100 for a yearly subscription, and $30 for a monthly subscription).
Nominal News Reader Questionnaire
As a thank you for completing the questionnaire, I will randomly select 10% of the completed questionnaires and offer a free Paid Subscription for 3 months (once the feature is on).
Paid Option Ideas
Here are some ideas I have mulled over for a paid option:
Special Edition Newsletters – like these that I recently published (here and here). The Special Edition would come out once or twice a month, in case a bigger economic/market event occurs, where I will share my immediate thoughts backed by economic research;
An audio version of my newsletter that will cover the main ideas of the newsletter, and, perhaps, further discussion;
An occasional podcast where I talk with economic researchers about their work;
An in-person meet-up event (this would be in New York City, as this is where I live).
The above are some ideas that I mentioned in the questionnaire.
Thank you and Looking Forward
With Nominal News, I set out to share the knowledge I gained during my PhD training. Moreover, I also want to share the methods of economic thinking, as I think they can be applied to any personal, social or job setting. Economics is fundamentally a study of decision making – and we make decisions in all kinds of situations, so it’s natural that economics can be very useful.
I look forward to continuing this journey, as I have always enjoyed sharing and teaching. Thank you for being a valued reader of Nominal News. Your readership has helped this project keep going over the last several years!
All the best,
Nominal News
